St. Pius X Campus Extended Day Program

The Extended Day Early Childhood Program is an optional flexible opportunity that

extends and enhances the regular Pre-K Program.

Monday-Friday

8:25-3:15 p.m.

The program is designed as a service to families of St. Pius X School who need extended care for children in preschool through kindergarten.

The program promotes spiritual, social, cognitive and physical development of each child in a Christian environment. It works closely with the teachers to gear the activities to interest and challenge the child at his/her ability level.

The following Concepts are taught:

• Basic Skills: Comprehension, thinking and logic/planning, name and identify eight (8) basic colors and six-eight (6-8) basic shapes, pencil crayon and scissor control.
• Math: Rote count to 30, identify numbers to 20, touch and count to 20 and write numbers to ten (10).
• Pre-Reading: Recite ABC’s, identify and make letters, and introduction to phonics.
• Pre-Writing: Color within the lines, complete dot-to-dot patterns, introduction to printing upper and lower case letters, print own name using upper and lower case.
• Self-Help Skills: Care for personal needs without assistance, clean up own play area, develop more positive self-image, respect for the rights and feelings of others, work out own problems and learn to cooperate.
• Group Time: Learn to express ideas, develop interest in books, develop good listening habits, develop language skills and learn about God through bible stories and prayer time.

The programs goals are to guide the children toward developing a positive self-concept, respect and service to others, strong Christian moral values, and a solid academic foundation for their future.
