“Sing unto the Lord a hymn of praise!”

There are a number of ways to praise the Lord through song. There are three (3) adult choirs, one (1) children’s choir, Resurrection Funeral Choir, one (1) youth choir, and one (1) hand bell choir. In addition, if leading the assembly in song is to your liking and ability, we have accompanists that play for our Masses and cantors who lead the assembly in song. Instrumentalists are also used when available. For more information contact Marie Ruffner at the parish office.

Music Ministries

 

Traditional Adult Choir
Traditional four-voice choir (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) that sings traditional choral pieces. The choir sings approximately twice a month at the 8:30 Sunday mass (September through May). Also sings for Christmas Eve 11:00 p.m. mass, Christmas Day 8:30 am, Good Friday afternoon service, Easter Vigil service, and Easter Sunday 10:30 am mass. Rehearses Thursday evening, 7:15-8:45.

 

Kenaniah Adult Contemporary Choir
Contemporary adult choir (3-4 voice; soprano, alto, tenor, bass) that sings contemporary choral music with keyboard and guitar accompaniment. The choir sings approximately twice a month and rotates between the 5:00 p.m. Saturday evening mass and the 10:30 am Sunday morning mass. In addition, this choir sings the Confirmation service for all Faith Formation high school students, Christmas Eve 7:00 p.m., Holy Thursday mass, and Easter Sunday 10:30 am. Rehearses Thursday evening, 6:15-7:30 p.m.

 

Resurrection (Funeral) Choir
Adult choir that sings at funerals when requested. To participate, one must be available during mornings, as most funerals are scheduled for either 11:00 or 11:30 am.

 

Singing Angels
Children's choir open to school age children in grades 3-5. Open to both parochial and public school children. This choir signs approximately once every 6 weeks at a 10:30 am Sunday mass. In addition, they sing at the 5:00 p.m. Christmas Eve liturgy. The choir rehearses October through April, from 3:15 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Public school children who are dismissed later than 3:15 can still participate if they come to rehearsal right from school.

 

Youth Mass Choir
Middle and High School youth who are interested in singing for the Youth Mass Liturgies, which are the 3rd Sunday of the month at the 6:00 p.m. Sunday night mass (October through May)/ Rehearsals are Thursday evenings, 7:30-9:00 p.m. in the church. Living Stones (our "in-house" organization) leads this liturgy.

 

Lessons and Carols Choir
This is a short-term choir commitment. The group is limited to 30 adults and sings the traditional Advent Lessons and Carols Service of traditional 4-part music. Rehearsals are Tuesday evening, 6:30-8:00 p.m. beginning mid-October and continuing to the second week of Advent (usually the second week in December).

 

Cantor (song leader)
Confident individual with vocal ability who leads the assembly in song at liturgies. Requires adequate vocal ability and leadership skills. Ability to read music a plus. The role of the cantor is to successfully lead the assembly in meaningful worship through his/her voice, physical presence and leadership skills.

 

Accompanist
Musician (pianist or organist) who provides all the music for liturgies; they support the cantor or choir and lead the assembly in song. Requires music reading ability, accompanying and leadership skills. Sight reading and the ability to chord music is a plus.

 

Instrumentalist
Other instrumentalists (flutists, trumpeters, guitarists, percussionists, etc.) who add their special musical tough to the singing of choirs or the assembly.
